Forsyth County Board of Education Approved a Tax Hike of Nearly 2 Mils

The Forsyth County Board of Education approved a tax hike of nearly 2 mils Thursday. Board members set the maintenance and operations (M&O) millage rate at 16.3 mils and the bond rate at 2.418.

One-by-one, residents stood before board members asking them to hold the line on taxes during one of the worst recessions in decades.

Outer counties weigh education sales tax

Suburban school districts, such as in Cherokee, Douglas and Henry counties, are seeking voter approval this November to renew their penny sales tax for education. In Forsyth County, voters already renewed a SPLOST, but some residents remain upset that the county school board also increased its levy.

The Forsyth County Board of Education held a press conference June 7, 2007 to announce the hiring of Dr. L.C. "Buster" Evans as the new superintendent of schools. After signing Evans contract, from left are board member Ann Crow, board Chair Nancy Roche, current superintendent Paula Gault, Evans, and board member Mike Dudgeon.

Also during its meeting Thursday night, the Forsyth County Board of Education approved member Ann Crow to continue serving as the school system’s liaison to the Georgia School Board Association liaison.
