Attorney General Sam Olens
Senior Assistant Attorney General Stefan Ritter
Special Assistant Shiela Guider
Office of the Attorney General
40 Capitol Square, SW
Atlanta, Georgia 30334
Dear Mr. Olens, Mr. Ritter and Ms. Guider:
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) published a brief by Jeffry Scott: Activist files complaint over appointment on March 2, 2011 and the Forsyth County News (FCN) published an article by Alyssa LaRenzie: State looking into possible violation, Complaint concerns open meetings act on March 5, 2011 regarding my complaint filed with your Office of the Attorney General against the Forsyth County Civil Service Board on March 1, 2011. Following is an excerpt from the FCN article:
Tisdale said she has already received public notice for the civil service board's next regular meeting, March 10. It's also posted on the county's Web site.
The notice still does not include all the required information, she said, but a room name was included for the first time.
"That's a little more helpful," she said. "... But they're still not doing it right. It's still deficient."
Please find attached these two newspaper publications, the Forsyth County Civil Service Board clerk's email, public notice and agenda for the regular meeting scheduled on Thursday, March 10, 2011.
The letterhead includes: title — Forsyth County Civil Service Board; city — Cumming; state — Georgia; and zip code — 30040.
The public notice includes: room — 911 Conference Room; building — Forsyth County Public Safety Complex; and street address — 3520 Settingdown Road.
The agenda includes: building — Public Safety Complex; and room — 911 Conference Room.
A "due" and proper public notice should contain complete and accurate information, including the following:
5. street address
8. zip code
The zip code listed in the letterhead is 30040; however, the zip code for the address of the meeting place located at 3520 Settingdown Road is 30028. The Forsyth County Civil Service Board letterhead, public notice and agenda are deficient due to incorrect and incomplete information.
Thank you for investigating these additional apparent violations of the Open Meetings Act by the Forsyth County Civil Service Board.
