Protecting Journalists’ Rights: A Conversation on National Shield Law

Join more than a dozen of the living members of the media who’ve been fined, detained or jailed in their support of First Amendment liberties at the Atlanta Press Club on Monday, September 12, for a conversation in support of a national shield law to protect reporters from prosecution.

Hear from Georgia’s Mark Thomason, publisher of the Fannin Focus, on his recent arrest for requesting open records.


The discussion will be facilitated by Brian Karem, executive editor of The Sentinel Newspapers and recipient of the 1991 National Press Club’s National Freedom of the Press Award.

Dress code at the Commerce Club is business attire.

The ticket does not include parking. Parking is available in the 191 Building parking deck with entrances on Ellis Street and Peachtree Center Avenue. Discounted parking vouchers for this deck will be available for $5 at the event. Guests must bring the ticket they receive upon entering the deck to receive a discount. The Peachtree Center MARTA station is also very convenient.
