FORSYTH COUNTY ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
Jack Shoemake - Chairman, District 1
Edward Kroell - Vice Chairman, District 3Jack Shoemake was appointed in 2011 to represent Commission District Number 1. District Number 1 includes most of the central portion of Forsyth County surrounding the City of Cumming. Jack is a native of Forsyth County. He served as a Forsyth County Commissioner from 1983 thru 1986, Sojourner House Board, and in various other community activities. He has also served on many boards in his church, Cumming United Methodist. He is interested in maintaining and improving the quality of life in the county.
Jack and his wife Ginger live in Cumming and have two sons and two grandsons. Jack works as a project manager for a major telecommunications company with a focus on the implementation of computer systems.
Jack received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Technology from Southern Tech in 1972 and an MBA from Georgia State University in 1979. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971.
Don Owen - Secretary, District 4Mr. Kroell is a graduate of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, majoring in the Social Sciences.
He began his professional career as a teacher in Philadelphia Pennsylvania; and a property and casualty underwriter for Liberty Mutual Insurance companies prior to moving into the field of information technology with Royal Globe Insurance Companies. He joined Insurance Systems of America as a manager of their processing services department and moved on to implementation project management. His consulting career led him through several years of system development and implementation to the position of director of Implementation Services in TRW's systems & information technology group; moving on then to Baan practice manager.
Activities outside of work have included involvement in his fraternity alumni association and housing corporation, President of the ISA Employee Association, Architectural Control committee chairman and Board of Directors member for the community homeowners association, and a member of the Forsyth County Public Facilities Authority.
Steve Kirby - Member, District 5Mr. Owen received a BBA from Florida Atlantic University majoring in Marketing and Finance.
Don and Donna moved to Forsyth County in 1995, moving to north Forsyth (from south Forsyth) into the Hampton Golf Village in 2003. Here he served on the HOA Board in 2014 and as President in 2015.
He retired from Consumer Product Sales in 2013 after a thirty six year career. His final fifteen years were as a sales manager for GlaxoSmithKline in the C-Store division where he was responsible for sales management and budgeting.
He currently enjoys spending time with his three children and their families.
Alfred John - Member, District 2Steve Kirby was appointed in 2017 to represent Commission District Number 5.
Steve moved Forsyth County in 1995, with his wife Lynn, and they have raised their two children here. Steve is Managing Principal for Mumford Company, a real estate firm focusing exclusively on the lodging industry. He is licensed to practice real estate in eight states.
Steve has served on the board of the Cumming-Forsyth County Miracle League since 2009, as Treasurer and also as a coach. He coaches Special Olympics basketball and holds leadership positions at First Baptist Church of Roswell where he has been a member since 1989. Steve graduated from Appalachian State University with a BA in Political Science with a concentration in Economics.
WORK SESSION AGENDAAlfred John was appointed in 2017 to represent Commission District Number 2.
Alfred is employed by a digital media company in Buckhead as a HR Information Systems manager.
He has lived in Forsyth County for the last 14 years and has also served as the President of his HOA. He fellowships with the Lake Lanier Bible Chapel in Flowery Branch and has served as their treasurer. Having lived in 3 countries while growing up, both in heavily urban as well as rural areas, he is drawn to nature and enjoys taking driving tours.
He and his wife, who works as a Nurse at Emory Johns Creek Hospital, have two children, a son who is a sophomore at UNG and a daughter who is a sophomore at Lambert HS. Apart from his two-legged children, he also has a Schnauzer mix and a Rhodesian Ridgeback.
